THE BREEDING PRINCIPLES OF BOONDEROO BRANGUS

Our objective is to breed and supply to our customers commercially focused cattle. This comes from running highly fertile cattle, cows that will wean large sappy calves and do this through all seasons with the lowest input from us. This means extreme pressure on fertility and then percentage of weight weaned off. Simple, we don’t play favourites .

We have a ninety day joining. All empty cows and heifers are culled at preg test. Then only the oldest and biggest heifers are retained for breeding regardless of seasons. No Excuses.
Bulls kept for breeding are also from this early calving group therefore passing on their inbuilt fertility to you. Nobody likes to pay interest and that’s what you are doing if you have unproductive cows walking around!
Cows need to work hard to stay in our system. Fertility is highly heritable by using bulls out of cows that have a calving interval under 365 days means your herd fertility will improve and the bull will pass this on to his progeny. They also need to perform. We have a continued commitment to produce performance cattle whilst running in a commercial environment.

We also utilize Breedplan to help increase our growth rates through observation without sacrifice. We do not like fat bulls preferring to sell direct to the producer out of the paddock off silage.
